The present invention relates to a map and travel routes that indicate relative traffic conditions. A method for showing relative traffic conditions on a map, comprising the following steps: segmenting roads on a map; obtaining current traffic conditions and historic average traffic conditions for the same time of day for each segmented road; on the basis of said current traffic conditions and said historic average traffic conditions, calculating relative traffic conditions for each segmented road; and, displaying on the map the calculated relative traffic conditions for each segmented road. A method for selecting a travel route, comprising the following steps: on the basis of a departure point and a destination point, identifying on the map multiple candidate travel routes; obtaining current traffic conditions and historic average traffic conditions for the same time of day for each candidate travel route; on the basis of said current traffic conditions and said historic average traffic conditions, calculating relative traffic conditions for each candidate travel route; and, selecting a travel route on the basis of the relative traffic conditions for each candidate travel route. |
