<p>Biological material, particularly cells such as animal gamete and embryo cells, comprising membrane-enclosed structures can be protected against chilling injury by reducing the intra-membrane tension or strain. The tension or strain can be reduced by partial dehydration of the cells in, for example, a hypertonic solution of a non-toxic solute; the tension or strain reduction may take place either prior to or concomotantly with chilling.</p> |
