This device comprises for each of the shelves 2, 3 a support and raising assembly comprising a pair of identical collapsible crosses 5a, 5b; 6a, 6b in the shape of an "X". These crosses are set out more or less in a vertical plane opposite each other on each side of the piece of furniture.
