Glass prodn. by electric melting

In the prodn. of glass products by electric melting, Joule effect heating is achieved by vertical electrodes immersed in a molten bath on the surface of which an uniform batch layer is spread. The novelty is that the electrodes are spaced from the nearest refractory side walls of the melting tank by a distance which is at least half the distance between adjacent electrodes and that the position of the max. temp. level is determined by the immersion depth of the electrodes. - Electric melting units for carrying out the process are also claimed.
