发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent a color variation to be caused by an optical rotatory dispersion from appearing on a display screen and to improve the color reproducibility by setting the title device to a display mode in which a light beam transmits through when a voltage is not applied by which a liquid crystal layer goes to twist nematic, and a light beam does not transmit through when a voltage is applied by which the twist nematic is released. CONSTITUTION:When a voltage is not applied between a display picture element electrode 25 and a counter electrode 27, as for a light beam which is emitted from a light source 35 and has transmitted through a second polarizing plate 22, its polarization axis is twisted by 90 deg. by optical rotatory power of a liquid crystal layer 29, goes to parallel to a polarization axis of a first polarizing plate 21, and accordingly, said light beam transmits through the first polarizing plate 21. On the other hand, when a voltage is applied between the display picture element electrode 25 and the counter electrode 27, the optical rotatory power of the liquid crystal layer 29 is released, therefore, the polarization axis of the light beam which is made incident on the first polarizing plate 21 is orthogonal to the polarization axis of its polarizing plate 21, and the light beam does not transmit through the first polarizing plate 21. In such a way, since the voltage which is applied between the display picture element electrode 25 and the counter electrode 27 is controlled by a TFT 24, the light transmittivity in each picture element is varied. Therefore, the color reproducibility goes to extremely satisfactory.
