The electrophoretic printer serves to record text, graphics or half tone information on an image carrier. To do this, electrically positively or negatively charged black or coloured toner particles are precipitated from, for example, a carrier fluid on to the image carrier under the effect of a locally produced electric field. The local electric field is produced by means of a pin electrode in the toner fluid opposite a metallic counter electrode. The counter electrode can be formed by means of a conductive reverse side of the paper when dielectric paper is used as the recording carrier, or by the intermediate image carrier itself when a metallic intermediate carrier is used. Arrangements with a plurality of pin electrodes which are operated in parallel are also known, in which case however the problem occurs that as a result of different voltages at the pin electrodes the toner particles themselves are deposited. The object of the invention consists in finding an arrangement in which the electrodes which produce the local electric field are not arranged in the toner fluid. The object is achieved in that a dielectric film is used as image carrier or intermediate image carrier, which film is moved past in front of a print head with an electrode arrangement, and in that the toner fluid is fed to the side opposite the print head.
