A transversally arranged hydraulic motor (H) coaxially drives two transmission shafts (5,6) connected to the two wheels of the axle respectively. A differential (3) is juxtaposed axially to the motor (H). The motor has a hollow output shaft (1) which lies coaxial to the transmission shafts (5,6), and is tubular input shaft. The transmission shaft (5) intended to drive the wheel on the same side as the motor is opposite the differential (3) and crosses the hollow shaft (1). The hydraulic motor and the differential are contained within the same casing, fastened to the vehicle structure. ADVANTAGE - The unit is smaller, simpler, more compact and lighter in weight than previous solutions.
