NON-LINEAR OPTICAL APPARATUS

PURPOSE: To radiate electromagnetic radiation having a frequency different from the frequency of an emitted electromagnetic radiation beam by directing the emitted electromagnetic radiation beam to a single crystal of lithium triphosphate having nonlinear optical characteristics. CONSTITUTION: A perpendicularly polarized laser of a wavelength 1.0642μm from an Nd:YAG laser 1 is condensed by a lens 2 and is projected to an LiB3 O5 crystal 3. The crystal 3 is so oriented that its crystallographic (b) axis is in the polarization direction of the exit beam and the (a) axis has an angle ψwith the optical axis passing the crystal. Here, ψ=10.32 deg. with respect to the second higher harmonic generation of the Nd:YAG laser frequency is obtd. The light released from the crystal 3 is collimated by a collimating lens 4 and passes a filter 5 where the basic wave is removed by absorption or reflection. The second higher harmonic generation may be released as horizontal polarized light.
