<p>A seat belt buckle (10) adapted to releasably retain a latch plate (24) insertable within a latch passage (22) in the buckle, which comprises: a rigid frame (12) having a rectangular base plate (14), two upstanding side walls (16) and a fixed bar (18) extending between said side walls (16), a locking member (26) supported by said side walls (16) so as to pivot between a latched and an unlatched position, a shaped blocking member (46) slidably mounted upon the locking member (26) between a first and a second position, a push button (20) slidably mounted on the side walls (16) to move said blocking member from the first to the second position, and a coil spring (54) biasing said blocking member (46) towards said first position. The fixed bar (18) has a trapezium-shaped cross-section comprising a knife-edged portion (27) which comes into sliding contact with a sloping face (50) of the blocking member (46) throughout the pivotal movement of the locking member (26) from the unlatched position to a position in which the coil spring (54) can snap the blocking member (46) into the first position.</p> |
