In the delivery of sheet-like articles (11) which are initially transported without overlapping and then retarded and further transported in the form of an imbricated flow (12), a gentle and orderly deceleration of the products and an exact positioning of the delivered products can be achieved in that the articles (11) which are transported without overlapping are seized by means of retardable grippers (9), transported by means of these grippers (9) over a retarding section which projects beyond a sheet length, gradually retarded relative to the speed of a feeding member (1) on this section and deposited on a delivery belt (3) when the desired speed of the imbricated flow (12) has been reached.
