The invention concerns an internal combustion engine, in which the piston-cylinder arrangements (3) are situated on a rotor (1) and act in a circumferential direction. For this purpose the rotor (1) has a rotationally symmetrical, that is circularly rotating hollow space (6), which forms the individual cylinders and accommodates the correspondingly designed pistons (4, 5). The stroke of the pistons (3, 4) is transmitted by connecting rods (8) to eccentrics (9), which are also rotatably mounted in the rotor (1). The said eccentrics (9) drive gears (12), which mesh in a fixed gear rim (13) situated on a stator (2). By virtue of this support, a torque is imparted to the rotor (1). The admission and discharge of fuel and ignition occur at fixed working areas of the stator (2) along which the cylinder wall (29), provided with corresponding openings (17), slides forming a seal. <IMAGE>
