The device is for propelling a wheeled vehicle or sledge over land. The device consists of a pole (1) with a forked end in which a wheel (2) and a pulley (21) are mounted. A cord (3) has one end wound around the pulley (21), whilst the other end passes around a pulley (31) in a pulley block and is then attached to the forked end of the pole. The pulley block is fastened to the vehicle (01). The drive exerts a longitudinal force on the pole (1) so that the vehicle is moved away from the wheel (21) in the manner of a punt being propelled by a punt pole.
