PURPOSE:To make a speedy startup of heating attainable by making the temperature of cooling water go up after heat exchange between exhaust gas and engine cooling water, and supplying this high temperature cooing water to a heater core for room heating or a heat exchanger of a heat pump in a selective manner. CONSTITUTION:In this air conditioner, there is provided with an exhaust gas heat exchanger 6 which performs a heat exchange between heat of exhaust gas out of an engine 1 taken in an inlet passage 8 from an exhaust pipe 7 and engine cooling water flowing in a core 11, and this heated cooling water is selectively fed to either side of a heat exchanger of a heat pump 24 of a heater core 18 for room heating by opening or closing operation of an on-off valves 15, 16 via a pipe 14. Each outflow side of the heat exchanger 28 and the heater core 18 is made to flow back to the inlet side of the engine 1. The heat pump 24 is provided with a compressor 25, an accumulator 26, a four-way selector valve 27, the heat exchanger 28 and its paired indoor heat exchange 28, and these elements are connected with one another through piping to constitute a cooling cycle.
