Transmission method for high definition TV images - mixing frequency components of video signal lying above limit frequency of station bandwidth to lower lying frequency

A first colour composite video signal with a higher line frequency and a higher colour carrier frequency than the norm for T.V. colour pictures is supplied by at least two signal paths, taking alternate lines. In these paths the signal is subjected to a ".'ow motion" action so that a second colour composite video signal, compatible with the norm, can be extracted from at least one of the paths. Pref., the signal derived by mixing the components lying above the limit is switched to a high-lying carrier in the video spectrum. Interference caused by the auxiliary carrier is compensated. Pixel switch-over avoided. USE/ADVANTAGE - Transmission of colour T.V. pictures, compatible with a T.V. standard, showing higher resolution and greater number of lines. Possible to economise on band width.
