In an oil filter in which an annular filter insertion unit (2) can be removed geodetically upwards from a pot-shaped filter housing, there is to be provision for flowing back of the oil present in the filter tube space (3) into an outlet channel (10) which opens when the filter insert is removed to occur in a simplified fashion with respect to the prior art. For this purpose, a pin (11) which protrudes out in the axial direction is to be formed at the lower end plate (5) of the annular filter insert (2) and when the annular filter insert (2) is fitted on the said pin (11) is to project in a sealing fashion into the opening of the outflow channel (10) and, in addition, fixing means (13) are to be provided on the annular filter insert (2) and the filter housing (1) and are to permit axial insertion of the filter insert only in one position which centres the pin (11) with respect to the opening of the outflow channel (10). <IMAGE>
