PURPOSE:To obtain a support matrix for a catalytic reactor not causing melt fracture without hindering the formation of alumina whiskers by using two kinds of brazing filler metals for low and high temps. and heating the metals in two steps before and after oxidation in the air for forming alumina whiskers. CONSTITUTION:Ferritic stainless steel contg. diffused Al as stock for a honeycomb structure is formed into corrugated beltlike foil 2 and flat beltlike foil 3 and the foils 2, 3 are wound to obtain a honeycomb structure 4. At this time, two kinds of brazing filler metals 6, 7 for low and high temps. are interposed between the foils 2, 3 as upper and lower layers. The resulting honeycomb structure 4 is temporarily brazed at <=1,050 deg.C at which only the brazing filler metal 6 for low temp. melts, alumina whiskers are formed and the structure 4 is brazed at a temp. above the melting temp. of the brazing filler metal 7 for high temp. A support matrix so brazed as to ensure a high remelting point is obtd. without hindering the formation of alumina whiskers. |
