PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium permitting easy vertical magnetization and recording with a conventional ring type head by heat treating a vertically oriented Co alloy layer formed by plating on an Ni alloy layer formed by plating on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A layer of an Ni alloy such as an Ni-P alloy is formed by electroless plating or other plating method on a substrate of copper or the like, and on the layer a magnetic layer of a Co alloy having a favorable vertically orienting effect along the C-axis such as a Co-Mn-P alloy is formed by electroless plating or other plating method. The magnetic layer is then heat-treated at >= about 100 deg.C in a hydrogen atmosphere. |
