GENETICALLY ENGINEERED PROCESSING OF MICRO-ORGANISM CULTURES AND DNA RELATED THERETO

In a method of facilitating separation and removal of cellular micro-organisms from a liquid culture medium containing a culture thereof, the cells from which the culture is grown are transformed by a replicable recombinant DNA expression vector having a DNA insert that results in the expression in the transformed micro-organism cells of a product that induces said cells to clump together and form aggregates which at least partially sediment out in the liquid culture medium. The DNA insert may comprise a nucleotide sequence GGAGCCCCAA GGAAAGGGGC CC (SEQ ID NO: 3) corresponding to a human genomic sequence, or modifications thereof in which at least the sequence AAGGAA is retained. Other phenotypic changes may also be produced in the transformed micro-organisms.
