A free radical emulsion polymerisable monomer of formula (V) is prepd. by reacting 1-(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)-3-(1- methylethylethenyl) benzene of formula (I) or 1-(1-isocyanato- 1methylethyl)-4-(1-methylethenyl) benzene of formula (II) with a cpd. (A) contg. a zerewitinoff active hydrogen atom at 0OC to solvent circulating temp. in presence of at least one catalyst selected from triethyl amine or ispropyl amine. The cpd. (A) consists of the cpd. of formula (III) or (IV), N-phenyl-N'-isopropylp-phenylene diamine, diisopropyl amine, p-aminodiphenyl amine, N(4-amylinophenyl)- mercaptoaceteamido, N-phenyl-N'-(1,3dimethylbutyl)-p-phenylene diamine, p-hydroxydiphenyl amine, naphthylamine, guinoline or p- phenylene diamine.
