For the formation of mats or foot scrapers, a grating 1 is described which consists of a multiplicity of grating bars 2 and 3 which are directed parallel to one another with their longitudinal axes and are interconnected at a distance from one another by transverse members 4. On the one hand, the transverse members 4 have holding elements 5a and 5b which run transversely to their longitudinal direction, are made with an undercut and are for example of T-shaped profile, while, on the other hand, the grating bars 2 and 3 have engaging elements 7a and 7b which run longitudinally, are constructed with an undercut complementary to the respective holding elements 5a and 5b of the transverse members 4 and are for example of C-shaped profile. Said engaging elements 7a and 7b can be positively but detachably coupled to the respective holding elements 5a and 5b of the transverse members, for example locked to the latter and/or longitudinally slid onto the latter. Using only a few different basic elements, the trouble-free assembly of grating bars 1 adapted for various requirements and uses is made possible. For this purpose, each transverse member 4 is equipped with at least two groups of differently profiled holding elements 5a and 5b and at least two groups of grating bars can be selectively or simultaneously coupled to the transverse members by means of engaging elements designed with correspondingly different but complementary profiles. <IMAGE>
