In a device for drawing a weft yarn (82) into an automatic loom, a continuous guide channel composed of tubular pieces (54, 55) is interrupted in places in order to allow various functional elements such as a yarn brake (52) or yarn tensioner (72) to act on the weft yarn (2) while the weft yarn (2) is deflected perpendicular to its direction of motion. To this end, the tubular pieces (54, 55) have slits in the region of the deflection, which extend from one deflection position (63) to the other (63'). The device enables a weft yarn to be drawn in automatically by means of compressed air.
