The detector (14) is for a thyristor (2) with an internal protective igniting circuit, with the control terminal of the thyristor coupled to an energising circuit (8) by an optical fibre (10). The detector consists of a first light pulse generator (16) with its respective voltage supply (18). The light pulse generator receiver side is coupled to the control terminal of the thyristor by an optical fibre (12), while its transmit side is connected to a monitoring circuit by another optical fibre (22). The voltage supply input is in parallel to the anode-cathode path of the thyristor, while its output is in parallel to the first light pulse generator.
