The plug connector for monomode optical fibres acomprises a sleeve (1) with a relatively low expansion coefficient fitted into each end of a coupling cuff (9), for supporting 2 optical fibre ends (15) in coaxial alignment. Each of the latter is supported in the sleeve via a ductule, corrosion-resistant insert (2) having a central bore for the optical fibre end (15). Pref. the insert (2) has a conically tapering lead-in bore communicating with the optical fibre bore. The sleeves (1) and the coupling cuff (9) are each pref. made of a nard metal or a ceramics material. ADVANTAGE - Maintains constant pressure of abutting optical fibre ends.
