摘要 Oval sections are important in IC engine design and production. Sections of the form R=a(1-sin. sq.alpha)+b sin sq. alpha where R is 'radius', a and b are the largest and smallest half axes, and < is the angle between R and one of the axes, can be generated by simple linear and rotational movements of the workpiece relative to the tool. This is achieved by the use of two fixed internal toothed gears (4,6) meshing with two pinions (3,9) which are held and driven by two cranks (2,8). An intermediate shaft (5) and output shaft (10) derive their motionn from two points (P1',P2') on ther circumference of the pinions (3,9). To the resulting linear motion of the output shaft and hence the workpiece (12) is added a rotational motion derived from shaft (17) and the gear pair (14,16). ADVANTAGE - Complex oval form can be generated by simple mechanical means.
