An antifouling composition for use in the control of noxious aquatic life comprising as an active ingredient, one or more phenol derivatives of the formula <CHEM> wherein R is a C3 SIMILAR C21 saturated hydrocarbon residue; X1 SIMILAR X5 each is H, HO or CH3O, providing excluding the case wherein all of X1 SIMILAR X5 are hydrogen. This composition is useful as an antifouling paint for marine structures, ships, fishnets, buoys, industrial water system, water cooling system and the like.
