A hollow rolling cylinder (1) is located on a central, stationary support shaft (3). A flat surface on the support shaft, located opposite the second rolling cylinder (10), locates a row of radially movable bearing pads (14) which include pockets for producing hydrostatic bearing elements which support the inside of the hollow rolling cylinder (1). The hydraulic pressure is supplied through axial and radial ducts (26) in the stationary support shaft (3). The interlinked bearing pad locations ensure that pressure drop along the shaft is compensated by increased pressure in the axial supply duct. USE/ADVANTAGE - Single row of hydrostatic supports inside hollow rolling cylinder provide uniform roller support.
