Automatic adjustment of sealing shutter - has motors responding to gap measured using video cameras

A chemical process has a reaction furnace with a tube (1) that has the separator gap between it and the housing automatically controlled by a shutter system (8). The gap (12-15) between the shutter and the tube is monitored by a pair of CCD video cameras. Reference points are provided by stops (2-5) that are combined with the video camera signal to form measurement of the gap. The motors are automatically operated to adjust the gap to a selected value. ADVANTAGE - Automatically controls sealing gap to limit entry of atmospheric gas.
