The integrated circuit (2) has a preset number of auxiliary terminals (H1-3) in addition to its input and output terminals (S1-29). In the function selection the auxiliary terminals in an assembly section are coupled with preset input and output terminals. In an analysis section the normal engagement of the input and output terminals is interrupted for a preset time period. In the period preset signals are transmitted from the preset input and output terminals via the connection to the auxiliary terminals, or from the latter via connections to the input and output terminals. The signal on each connection is unanbiguously allocatable to the respective transmitting terminal.
