Viral genes, for example "coat" protein genes, which reduce the corresponding virus infection symptoms or viral resistance, may be combined with herbicide resistance genes in order to transform plants. This combination makes it easier to select transgenic plants. In addition, in practical agricultural applications, plant vitality is increased thanks to viral tolerance and the herbicide resistance gene enables improved plant protection to be achieved.
