The invention relates to weapons and in particular to a silencer for a weapon, preferably being a barrel-shaped silencer attachable to the end of a barrel 1, the silencer having a central bullet passage 13, and having a cylindrical jacket 2 and inside the jacket successive silencing chambers 9, separated from one another by means of dividers 11. According to the invention, means 12, 12', 14, 15, are provided, at least in the first silencing chamber 9, for separating the bullet passage 13 from an escape chamber 19, 19' for the powder gases, thereby essentially preventing the powder gases from exerting an influence on the bullet 6.
