<p>A mechanism for reading data on a document having code data thereon comprising moving a document to a predetermined position. Means are provided for feeding the document from that predetermined position after a comparison is made. Means are also provided for sequentially presenting a series of comparison data to the mechanism. A reader is provided for sensing the code data on the document before the document is fed from its predetermined position. Comparing the code data on the document sensed by the reading means with the then first, at the time of comparison, sequential series of comparison data to determine whether the code data on the document matches with said comparison data. Interrupting the feeding of the document responsive to the comparing means to prevent a document from being fed if the code data on the document does not match with the comparison data. <IMAGE></p> |
