The tilting mechanism for a film camera cradle has a mounting guiding the curved skids of the cradle on rollers. The cradle is moved by a link chain (15) with rollers (16), driven by a sprocket (21). The sprocket and/or rollers can be hardened and the skids can have lengthwise ribs (10) engaging in grooves in the rollers. The pitch of the sprocket teeth can be finer than that of the chain links and the latter can be supported on the side furthest from the cradle by a flexible belt (18), joined to the cradle (3) at the ends, running round guide rollers at the sprocket.
