The TDM telephone exchange incorporates stand-by facility for the central coupling field and the programme-controlled central processor, with their corresponding terminal groups coupled to corresponding line pairs (L1,1, L2/1; L1/2 L2/2). The decentralised control groups (GP1,GP2) are arranged in pairs to allow each to perform the same control function. One central coupling field (K1,K2) and one of the two central processors (ZW1,ZW2) is employed at any one time, while the other two remain in stand-by mode. The software is loaded via the employed central procesor (ZW1) coupled to the decentralised control groups (GP1, GP2) via the associated coupling field (K1), with transfer of the connection information and the programme information to the replacement processor (ZW2) via the replacement coupling field (K2).
