A stationary unit (2) and a mobile unit (3) exchange data over infrared links between their transmitters (4) and receivers (5). The stationary unit (2) handles control signals from a starting key (6) and control and alarm signal sources (7,8). The mobile unit (3) is connected to generators of measured-value signals (9) and limit signals (10), and is powered from an auxiliary supply (12) independent of the mains (11). It responds to signal inputs by replaying messages from its transmitter (4) back to the receiver (5) of the stationary unit (2). ADVANTAGE - More secure and reliable operation is guarateed with mobility of second unit.
