The appts. is for the automatic regulation of supported natural breathing by the respirator of a breathing machine. The appts. consists of an endotracheal tube (5) with its inlet connected to a Y-shaped adaptor (7) which has an inspiratory tube (21) and an expiratory tube (22). The automatic compensation for pressure losses in the appts. is achieved by measuring the pressure at a set of given points (14, 15, 17) and then increasing the pressure (Py) in the Y piece (7) in order to restore the pressures at these points (14, 15, 17) to their required level.
