Process for the preparation of thin layers of transition metal oxides

Process for the preparation of a thin layer comprising at least one transition metal oxide. This process consists: a) in preparing one or more oxyhydroxides of the transition metal(s) forming part of the composition of the thin layer to be prepared, by alkali metal/H<+> ion exchange from an oxygen compound of the transition metal(s) and of an alkali metal, and b) in vacuum-evaporating the oxyhydroxide(s) prepared in stage a) and condensing the vapour(s) thus obtained on a substrate. This process can be employed for preparing layers of electrochromic materials which are impossible to obtain by other processes.
