Biological waste-water filter has a housing inside which is a chamber contg. a filter material. The floor of this chamber is raised above the base of the housing, and below it is a chamber contg. an aeration system. The chamber communicates via rising pipes with a flushing water container, and the floor of the filter chamber contains a large number of perforations. A distribution device is provided in the filter material just above the floor for the introduction of an oxygen-rich gas. This device consists of a central pipe to which a number of branch pipes are connected and which in turn lead to aeration pipes. The central pipe and branch pipes extend almost to the walls of the filter chamber, and the branches are orthogonal to the central pipe and to the aeration pipes. Each aeration pipes has several nozzles which face in different directions. The distribution device is attached to supports on the floor of the filter chamber.
