The explosive shell has a detonator with a main detonator needle (20) and a slider (16) with a detonation charge (18). The slider is installed so that it slides in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal axis (A) of the shell. The shell is provided with a detonation delay device which is pressed against a second detonator needle (42). The slider (16) has a recess (62) formed in one long side in which a safety bolt is fitted. A locking pawl which co-operates with the safety bolt is so designed that it will only release the slider (16) in a limited region of rotational speed of the shell. USE/ADVANTAGE - Detonator for an explosive shell is released in a limited region of rotational speed of the shell.
