The end of the eject key bar (302) carries a malfunction tongue (308) which provokes ejection of the cassette when the key is fully depressed. Partial depression of the key allows the reversing clutch to follow a different track (314a) of a multitrack guide (314) so that the reversing lever (384) effects a reversal of the tape drive. Further depression leads the mechanism to follow the main track (314b) back to its starting position with the cassette ejected. ADVANTAGE - Reversal of direction is accelerated by manual pressure on eject key which has wider range of function.
