PURPOSE:To improve color reproducibility at all times irrespective of the distribution of colors of a color original by providing a prescanning means which obtains distribution information on the colors of the original by prescanning the color original and a parameter setting means which sets parameters regarding color compression. CONSTITUTION:The color original is scanned by the prescanning means 55 to input the color distribution information on the color original. Then a color information signal of the color original is inputted in picture element units, and a color compressing process is performed by using the parameters regarding the color compression which are determined by a color compressing means 54 to perform compression and conversion to colors which can be recorded by a recording means 52. Then a printer control signal which enables control so that the recording colors are nearly the same colors as colors indicated by the color information signal after the color compression is generated and color recording is carried out by using ink or toner of cyan, magenta, and yellow according to the generated printer control signal. Consequently, the proper color correction is performed regardless of the distribution of the colors. |
