PURPOSE:To low maintain battery internal pressure so as to obtain a battery of long life further with high safety by adding zirconium - nickel alloy into a metal hydride electrode of LaNi5 system alloy or the like. CONSTITUTION:An alloy of zirconium - nickel system is contained as a subcomponent in an hydrogen occlusion alloy of main component of a negative electrode in addition to an AB5 system represented by LaNi5. A hydrogen storage balance pressure of the added alloy is higher than the main component alloy, and when a hydrogen partial pressure in a battery is increased by a cause of abnormal increase of a battery temperature and deterioration of the main component alloy or the like, a high hydrogen storage balance pressure of this added alloy serves as an upper limit to impede a battery internal pressure from rising to this pressure or more. In this way, the battery of long life further with high safety can be obtained by enabling the battery internal pressure to low maintain. |
