For a liquid charged with particles in suspension and flowing, for example, through a deburring installation, the device includes a tank (1) arranged vertically and provided with an upper filling opening (5) and a lower draining opening (21), with a valve (9) for connecting/isolating the upper opening (5) to/from a pipe (7) for conveying the product to be controlled, and a valve (10) for connecting/isolating the lower opening (21) to/from a pipe (22) for draining out the controlled product, a piston/screen (14) mounted so that it can slide to and fro in the tank (1) from a high starting position towards the bottom of the tank (1), a driving member (12) for driving the piston under a substantially constant force, and a member (19, 20) for detecting the length of the stroke of the piston, sending, as output, a signal which signifies the quantity of particles present in the liquid. <IMAGE>
