PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to reduce a focusing time even when contrast AF is started while a subject is blurred.SOLUTION: A contrast signal processing circuit 124 determines contrast information indicating contrast of a subject on the basis of an image. A CPU 121 determines a focus degree indicating the degree of focus to the subject on the basis of the image and sets a contrast determination threshold according to the focus degree. The CPU further sets an imaging period in photographing the subject with an imaging element 107 according to the contrast information and the contrast determination threshold, and drives a focus lens 105 on the basis of the contrast information and the focus degree to adjust the focus to the subject.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
