New 4,7-dimethyl-4,7-diisobutyl -1,3-dioxacycloheptanes, substd. in the 2-position, of formula (I) are claimed, where R1 = 1-12C (un)branched alkyl, 5-8C cycloalkyl, or alkyl and 5-8C cycloalkyl with total of 6-12C. 2-Ethyl-, 2-propyl-, 2-tert.butyl-, and 2-n-butyl-4,7-dimethyl-4,7- diisobutyl-1,3 -dioxacycloheptane are claimed. (I) are prepd. by reacting 2,4,7,9-tetramethyl-decane 4,7-diol with an aldehyde of formula R1-CHO. USE/ADVANTAGE - Use of (I) as perfumes, and perfume compsns. contg. (I), are claimed. Applications include in creams, lotions, toilet soaps, cleaning compsns. and softening rinses. (I) can be mixed in varying ratios with other perfumes, and are very stable in neutral and alkaline media.
