The transducer comprises a tubular housing 1 containing an axially movable slider 4 with contacts 5 which cooperate with a resistive track and a conductive track 3, 3'. A traction belt 8 is coupled to both ends of slider 4 and passes over rollers 9, 9' located at the end of housing 1 before connection to slide 13 located on the outside of the housing. Seals 11, 11' separate the resistive track from the outside of the housing. in alternative embodiments the slide 13 is mounted in dovetail grooves (17) on the housing or has internal grooves guided on a rod along the outside of the housing. The transducer may be used for determining the position of the piston rod or slide of a working cylinder which can be operated by pressure medium.
