The membranes, which have a higher water permeability, are formed by reacting chitosan with alkali, organic acid and vinyl monomer. The alkali is sodium hydroxide or pottasium hydroxide aqueous solution of 0.1-2 N. The organic acid is chloro sulfonic acid or chloro acetic acid. Pref., the vinyl monomer has acidic, basic or the other functional groups which give the acidic or basic groups. The membrances are used to separate a mixture of water and organic compound by vaporation.
