<p>In a thermostatic valve assembly for a coolant circuit of an internal combustion engine, with a thermostatic working element comprising a housing 17 containing an expansible substance and a working piston 18 adapted to be extended from the housing, an auxiliary valve 24, 23 is arranged to by-pass a main valve 16, 15 and to be opened prior to opening of the main valve. The closure plate 16 of the main valve is attached to the housing 17, while the closure member 24 of the auxiliary valve is secured to the piston 18. In the rest position, the piston is spaced from an abutment 19. Initial rise in temperature moves the piston into engagement with the abutment 19, thus opening the auxiliary valve against the bias of a spring 25. Further movement of the piston 18 being prevented by the abutment 19, continued increase in temperature causes movement of the housing 17 and thus opens the main valve. <IMAGE></p> |
