The invention relates to a composition comprising at least one reaction product of (A) at least one hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acylating agent having at least three carboxylic groups, with (B) at least one amine-terminated polyoxyalkylene, having a number average molecular weight from about 600 to about 10,000, or at least one salt of the reaction product. Functional fluids formulated with these reaction products or salts thereof have sufficient and stable viscosity for use in hydraulic, cutting, metal working and other lubricating fluids.
