A control device and a control method using frequency filters to control clearances (29) of electromagnetic suspension systems between a machine bed (20) and a machine (24), where the control device has control loop elements to electromagnetically emulate a mechanical spring of variable, sonic frequency-dependent spring rate and damping capacity for acoustic insulation and where the frequency filters are designed for sonic frequencies. The control device and method are designed for supporting and guiding the suspended machine (24) within narrow clearances (29) in the very low frequency range and prevent the transfer of vibration forces to the machine bed in the low, medium and high frequency ranges. The control device and method can be used for electromagnetic noise-insulated suspension of machines in vibration-sensitive structures, such as ships, aircraft, buses and steel or reinforced concrete constructions.
