The romatic polyester (weight average molecular weight = 5,000- 100,000) of formula (I) ( where, n, m = 0.05-0.95, n+m = 1) is prepared by slurry (or solution) polymerizing 4,'-acethoxy biphenol-4-carboxylic acid of formula (II) and para-acethoxy benzoic acid of formula (III). The solvent used in the polymerization reaction is therminol 66 or therminol 77, and the reaction catalyst is tetrabutyl titanate. Especially, the molecular weight of polyester is grandually increased by the four step reactions: at 230-250 deg.C for 30 minutes, at 250-280 deg.C for 30 minutes, at 300 deg.C for 4 hours and at 320 deg.C for 18 hours. The aromatic polyester has a good mechanical strength.
